With Article 50 the EU has made sure it would be very difficult for the UK or anyone for that matter, to simply walk away from the EU.
In my opinion, Brussels (EU HQ) made sure that when a referendum was held in the UK, it will be packaged in a way that if the UK wanted to leave, they should vote REMAIN and RE-NEGOTIATE the terms including Article 50.
And If voters wanted the UK STAY in EU, they should VOTE LEAVE. And Article 50 as it is and as it was will make sure the UK to leave will take at least two years to leave and very inconvenient.
On the eve of the referendum a good 10% of the voters were undecided. They could have tilted the result towards Bremain.
One thing is certain, even those who wanted the UK to leave the EU, a new treaty must be negotiated with the EU to include future business transactions with the EU member countries.
Brexit vote is water under the bridge. There are NOW other options most favorable to the UK.

The former Ukip leader spoke about Mr Cameron’s poor negotiating style and said that because of his background he wasn’t aggressive enough when making his demands to the European Union.
Speaking to Nick Ferrari on LBC, Mr Farage criticised the former Prime Minister for the way he demanded changes from the European Union before the EU referendum.
According to the 52-year-old European MEP, Mr Cameron should have been more aggressive and taken tips from the French when negotiating.
He said: “Does he really know what street fighting is? Because where he let himself down, I think, wasn’t in the campaign, it was the deal.

“He goes over and makes very modest demands, doesn’t threaten anything.
“He basically said, ‘this is what I want, and if I don’t get it well, we’ll stay anyway’.”
David Cameron, the former Conservative party leader stepped down as Prime Minister after 17.4million people voted to leave the European Union on June 23.
The politician then resigned as MP of Witney which triggered a by-election on September 12.
Nigel Farage continued with his tirade over Mr Cameron and admitted if he had been stronger with his EU negotiations then Britain may not have elected to Leave the EU.
Nigel Farage is a British politician who has been the leader of the UK Independence Party since October 2016.
He said: “It was the whole strategy that was wrong. There are countries that are good at negotiating in the European Union, the French.
“They say, ‘look give us what we want of we will veto the whole treaty, that’s how they do it.
“Cameron and the Foreign Office were all terribly gentlemanly. He asked for nothing, he got less, it was a disaster.”
The former Ukip leader argued that Britain took the chance to leave the EU and be the “first brick out of the wall” before someone else done it.
