Greater East Asia Conference Tokyo, Japan Nov. 5 - 6, 1943

Shortly after the inauguration of the Second Philippine Republic, President Laurel, together with cabinet Ministers Recto and Paredes flew to Tokyo to attend the Greater East Asia Conference which was an international summit held in Tokyo, Japan from November 5 – 6, 1943, in which Japan hosted the heads of state of various component members of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. The conference was also referred to as the Tokyo Conference.

In April 1945, when Roxas was exonerated by MacArthur, the oligarchs were ecstatic. Most if not all of them collaborated with the enemy. Roxas of Iloilo claims he is a descendant of an 18th century Spanish merchant who sired Ayala, Zobel, Soriano and Elizalde clans all of whom hail from Panay Island. Perhaps this will explain why Jaime Cardinal Sin who is from Iloilo, Panay Island became one of the most powerful Cardinals of the Philippines.

Despite MacArthur’s advice “not to let selfish ambition to impede the progress of your country”, the oligarchs and traitors succumbed to their own greed.  Not satisfied with impromptu pardon they received from MacArthur, they wanted to take over the whole country again.

From this time on, to be from Iloilo, Panay Island is the no. 1 requirement for success in the Philippines, not education, training and experience or even with prayer and hard work.  The Lopezes who own a TV network  (ABS-CBN),  utilities (Meralco) and Geothermal monopoly,  are said to be Chinese from Ilolilo changing their Chinese name “Lo” by adding “pez”, to produce a Spanish sounding family name.
