JP Laurel, Benigno Aquino Sr.: Collaborators Taken Into Custody Sept. 15, 1945

During World War II, the Japanese appointed Jose P. Laurel as president of the Philippine “republic” in October 1943. The vice president was Benigno Aquino I, the grandfather of Aquino III! Aquino I was a very different nationalist, in that he is the foremost apologist for Japanese Imperialism but denounced American “Imperialism “on a regular basis.

Aquino I (He) even visited a Filipino POW camp where defenders of Bataan and Corregidor were held. Thinking the Filipinos were draftees, he told them they were sacrificed by America in a token resistance. He did not realize they were all volunteers.
